MicroCon 2023 dates, locations announced
LAS VEGAS, USA — During the closing session of the 2022 MicroCon in Las Vegas, Travis McHenry the Grand Duke of Westarctica, announced the locations selected for the 2023 MicroCon. The winning bid for the 2023 MicroCon was submitted by the Royal Republic of Ladonia with the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis. The locations will be Chicago (Joliet, Illinois USA – hosted by Ladonia) and Belgium (Ypres EU – co-hosted by Ladonia and Flandrensis). This is the first time there will be both EU and USA events.
The Chicago MicroCon is scheduled for June 30-July 2, 2023 in the Chicago suburb Joliet, Illinois. The Ypres MicroCon is scheduled for August 11-13, 2023 in Ypres, Belgium. General information, hotel and travel details and registration for both events can be found at https://microcon2023.com/
Joliet is about an hour drive from Chicago O’Hare International Airport and a little less than that from Chicago Midway International Airport. It is also serviced by train (both Amtrak and Metra), and is within a three hour drive from major midwestern cities like Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Milwaukee, Madison, Champaign-Urbana and more. The Chicago area is a popular travel destination around the 4th of July, so conference organizers recommend taking advantage of the group rate at the conference hotel (group rate is available until May 9, 2023). Travel within Europe to Ypres is obviously different than traveling within the United States. There are five airports considered “nearby” to Ypres, and trains and coaches are also plentiful. August is high travel season for Ypres, and conference organizers recommend making travel reservations early as there is no room block reserved especially for attendees. MicroCon is a biennial gathering of micronationalists that “travels” around North America (and now Europe) to ensure that it is accessible by as many as possible. The MicroCon Committee, comprised of the original host countries, selects host nations for the upcoming events from bids submitted by hopeful micronations. Bids and pitches to host the 2025 MicroCon will be announced at the conclusion of the Chicago event.
