July 4: Ladonians Celebrate “Naked Day”
WOTAN CITY, Ladonia — Naked Day, one of Ladonia’s more enigmatic and potentially traumatic national holidays, returns this July 4, with citizens encouraged to cast off not only their clothing, but also the weight of expectation, pretense, and inherited allegiance.
While much of the world marks the date with flags, fireworks, and fevered declarations of independence, Ladonia chooses a different path: one of radical honesty and playful absurdity. On Naked Day, we remember that true freedom isn’t about borders or banners — it’s about being unencumbered.
But Why “Naked”?
The precise origins of Naked Day remain, ironically, cloaked in mystery. Some believe it was a commentary on the vulnerability of new nations, others claim it was a cheeky nod to the artistic spirit of Nimis itself — a monument built without permission and without pretense. Others suspect it was simply chosen because it was funny, and the calendar was otherwise free.
Regardless of its roots, Naked Day has come to represent a celebration of Ladonian values: transparency, humor, nonconformity, and the freedom to be fully oneself — even if only metaphorically unclothed.
How to Celebrate
There are no formal ceremonies (clothing or otherwise), but citizens are encouraged to participate in ways that embody the spirit of the holiday:
- Strip away the unnecessary — whether it be clothing, stress, or digital clutter.
- Visit Nimis and contemplate the bare wood of its form.
- Remove a single sock and declare yourself 2% liberated.
- Write poetry about the absurdity of freedom, or a haiku about the perils of polyester.
- Post a naked apple (or dragon!) on social media with the hashtag #LadoniaNakedDay.
Whether fully disrobed or simply shedding metaphorical layers, Ladonians are invited to embrace this most vulnerable of holidays.
A Celebration of Unarmed Art
As Ladonia approaches its 30th anniversary, Naked Day reminds us that we were never clothed in the trappings of tradition. Ours is a nation born of driftwood, defiance, and a delight in the ridiculous.
Let us celebrate, in full vulnerability and full absurdity.
Happy Naked Day. May your truths be unbuttoned and your metaphors unzipped.
