NEW YORK CITY — Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort attended the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday, 05 June 2026, for the world premiere of Micronations, a documentary film directed by Joe Kowalski featuring Ladonia and several other micronations from around the world.
The royal couple attended the premiere alongside several micronational leaders featured in the film, including HRH Grand Duke Travis of Westarctica and President Kevin Baugh and First Lady Adrianne Baugh of the Republic of Molossia. Her Majesty also appeared on the red carpet ahead of the screening.
Following the Friday premiere and the Saturday screening of the film, the Queen joined fellow micronational leaders and director Joe Kowalski for audience question-and-answer sessions discussing the documentary and the wider micronational world.
Speaking after the premiere, Her Majesty praised the film’s thoughtful approach to its subject matter.
“What pleased me most was that the film looked beyond the micronations most often covered in popular media. While audiences will recognize some familiar names, the documentary offered a broader and more thoughtful view of the micronational world and introduced viewers to stories they may not have encountered before.”
Her Majesty also noted that the inclusion of academic commentary helped place micronations in a broader cultural and historical context.
“That perspective elevated the documentary beyond simple curiosity. It treated micronations as creative, social, and political projects worthy of thoughtful consideration.”
The Queen further welcomed the film’s portrayal of efforts to support emerging micronationalists through educational and diplomatic activities at gatherings such as MicroCon.
“One of the most encouraging aspects of the documentary was its recognition of the next generation. Events like MicroCon provide opportunities for newer micronationalists to present their ideas, develop leadership skills, and engage with their peers. I was pleased to see that spirit of mentorship and community reflected in the film.”
